I thought my husband and I had discovered Donna Hay's cook books together during those first heady years of courtship. But flicking back through Hay's books that came easily to hand; 'The New Cook', 'New Entertaining', and 'Flavours', an inscription in the front of 'New Entertaining' from one of my husband's ex-girlfriends, reminded me there was life before Sarah.

Over the past nineteen years we've dipped into all three of these books for inspiration and they show all the signs of not only being well thumbed, but well used.

This recipe comes from Donna Hay's fourth book, 'Flavours'. It features recipes curated around nine distinct and tantalising flavours; vanilla, lemon & lime, ginger, chilli, garlic & onion, chocolate, salt & pepper, basil & mint and cinnamon & spice.

This recipe comes from the garlic and onion section.
