Chilli is said to have originated in the region that's now northern Mexico and southern Texas. Traditionally it was made with beef, chilli peppers, tomatoes and beans. Today you can find recipes for chilli from turkey con carne to chilli meatballs and a wide variety of veggie options in between.

So far in my mission to cook 292 different meals during 2020, I've already served up one chilli using jackfruit. This evening's version is also based on an alternative to beef, using instead slow cooked lamb and chorizo. It's a family favourite which appears on our 2015 list of meals on rotation and has been cooked many times over the years.

I started the first stage of Claire Macdonald's Lamb and chorizo chilli recipe yesterday. It cooled overnight and was back on the hob late afternoon today ensuring a relaxing Sunday afternoon.
