Salads don't have to be the province of vegetables alone and summer feels like the opportune time to throw in fresh fruit to add taste and texture to leafy greens and crunchy produce. A handful of berries, peach, nectarine or pear slices, orange segments or diced apple will all bring additional colour and juicy sweetness to the salad bowl.

Inspired by this peach, spinach salad with avocado, toasted almonds and goats cheese recipe, I created my own summer salad combination with some of my favourite ingredients. Peach and blueberries delivered the sweetness, avocado the good creamy fat, Wensleydale provided the protein and pumpkin seeds the finishing crunch.

I dressed the salad with a classic vinaigrette.
