Having had some success with a can of pilchards in a fish noodle soup back in June, today I was keen to see how else this modest tinned item could be transformed into a budget feast.

Curry seemed a relatively safe bet and I settled on Hari Ghotra's Pilchard Curry recipe. Surprised and delighted after my first efforts with a tin of sardines, tonight's dish sat in stark contrast. Maybe there was a little too much anticipation on my part. Or perhaps I didn't follow the recipe as closely as I should. Either way, this dish won't be appearing on my list of my top ten curries.

NB. My decision to serve with peas was simply to reduce my carb intake.
