Yesterday I decided to take the blackcurrants I picked in July out of the freezer and make jam I've been promising to do since early summer when I noticed the bush in the garden looked set to offer up a bumper crop.

While I was working to transform my 1.5kgs of small berries into four jars of jam using Barney Desmazery's recipe from the BBC Good Food website, I also made a start on tonight's planned tapas. I was aiming for food the whole family would enjoy and a combination of dishes would offer everyone a little of something they like.

The Andalusian-style chicken was chosen to satisfy my daughter, the ham and cheese croquetas for my son and the gambas al ajilio tickled my husband's fancy. They all looked and tasted good to me!
